Overview of Bungowannah virus

Bungowannah virus (BV) is a single-stranded, positive-sense, enveloped RNA virus approximately 12.6 kb in length belonging to the Pestivirus genus and Flaviviridae family. BV is a genetically distinct pestivirus that infects swine and has only been observed at two sites in Australia. The pathogen is known to cause sudden death in swine, with myocarditis detected at necropsy. An increase in stillborn and mummification has also been observed.
